Burke Trip

When we were at the Lyndon Outing Club we got to see what the ski hill had in the basement, in the maintenance shed and other areas around the Lyndon Outing Club.On our Burke Trip that we have taken we went to Mid-Burke and we checked out the plans for what the new lift will look like, we also check out the master plan that they had and it showed a lot of work that they want to do over the next 10 years or so. The lift that they are putting in is a Poma and it will be a top drive lift. Burke is not very far along with the build of their new lift, they are only at the concrete stage in the process. After checking out where the top terminal will be we went and saw their new wind turbine that they now have at the top of Burke.

Cannon Trip

On our trip to Cannon our sole purpose was to go visit the New England Ski Museum. When we got to the museum the pictures of the ski lifts, snowmaking, and the groomers that they had. The museum was full of different trophies, clothing, and all different types of skis. Their were skis that looked like they were the first ski ever skied, and their was one probably for every year after their oldest ski. After checking out the old equipment that was used we then went and say a power point about the history of skiing in New England, and how they cut trails out. After checking out the museum we then took the Tram up to the top of Cannon where we went out to the observation tower but it was too windy and rainy to be out their for very long. We ended the day with a tram ride down to the base.

Stowe Trip

When we went to Stowe for class we ended up checking out their new Dopplemayr lift that is almost complete. Stow is putting a new high speed quad that goes the full length of the mountain. When we went to Stowe the lift towers were complete and placed on the hill already, the top terminal was half way through being complete and the bottom terminal was just about done. Stow is also putting a building in next to the lift to house the lift chairs on days that will be extremely cold and snowy and icy so they dont have to take off the snow and ice from them. After checking out the new lift we went back to the base and helped the mountain ops at Stowe dismantle the old lift towers that they had taken down to put the new lift up. In the end it was a pretty sweet trip to Stowe.
